Jos 7:6Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they put dust on their heads. ESV
You’ve no doubt heard the saying, “Don’t get the cart ahead of the horse”! It’s a simple reminder that horses don’t push well. If you want to get to your destination successfully, get the horse out in front and pulling for you.
Israel had just taken Jericho. Why? Because they followed the Lord’s directions, and fought the battle His way. His way didn’t make much sense, humanly speaking… but the walls did fall down and they did take the city. You might say, "God was pulling for them." Next on the “to take” list was a town called, Ai.
Only this time, the leaders said, “Hey God… we got this… You can sit this one out… We don’t need You!” They assumed they could put the victory ahead of the Lord! They had the Lord in the wrong place!
it was good for Joshua and the leaders to pray! It was a great plan… but the wrong timing! How do you plan to move forward, beloved? Where is the Lord? In the front or at the rear? Will you pray before you start… or after you fail?
