I said, “I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth with a muzzle…” Psalm 39:1 ESV
I attended a pistol safety course a few days ago. Two terms caught my attention: Muzzle Blast & Muzzle Discipline! The "Muzzle Blast" is the noise and damage that takes place when the round leaves the chamber. Once the round leaves the Muzzle… you can’t take it back. So….Keeping the Muzzle from firing in the wrong direction and at the wrong target takes, “Muzzle Discipline”!
As I thought about that, I realized that this lesson could pertain to the words of my mouth! Dang! I hate it when that happens!
I have to confess, like a round fired from a pistol, I’ve had times when I fired a round out of my mouth without much thought of the destruction it may end up causing. Once my Muzzle Blast was heard, it was impossible to take back. If I would have just used some Muzzle Discipline, perhaps I would have been quicker to hear and slower to fire the round… or maybe I would have never fired the round at all! It would have been so much better for my MUZZLE BLAST to not even be heard!
Beloved, “Life and death are in the power of our Muzzle Blast”! Jesus spoke of the importance of Muzzle Discipline when He said, "And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.” Matt. 12:36
I don’t know about you dear one… but that makes me want to practice, "Muzzle Discipline”!
