“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner:I am the Lord your God." Lev. 19:9-10ESV
The farmers are smiling! And why not? Its the time for reaping what has been sown! Now the Lord of the harvest has a request! The farmer was not to reap right up to the edge.. but leave some for others to glean. But this word is not just for the farmer...
All of us need to be reminded that we are to involved in caring for the poor and the stranger in the land. We too, can leave a little of our “harvest” [what the Lord of the harvest gives to us] and give it to those in need. I don’t need to strip the harvest right up to the edge, just to use it for myself.
Dear one… ask the Lord today to show you that, “someone" could be helped by your increase. Has God blessed you? Then start looking for the way to leave a blessing behind for others.
There really is joy in gathering.. but, our Master teaches us that there is more joy in giving. As it is written, "In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive”. Acts 20:35
Leave some grapes for others.
