Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. John 4:21 NLT
Where should I worship? Good question! It’s a question that’s been around for a long time. Unfortunately, the question also caused a tension and division between the Samaritans and the Jews. The Samaritan woman was “sure” that TRUE worshippers had to worship where Samaritans worshipped. The Jews had to worship in Jerusalem. Both places were mountains… high places… and… unfortunately… just one more thing to argue about.
The struggle still goes on today. What “mountain” should I worship on? Jesus cuts right to the quck! Listen to what He said...
"You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship”. It seems her focus was too much on “The Where” and not the “WHO”! Jesus wasn’t finished...
"But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way”. [v23] Again Jesus directed her focus was from the “Where” to the “HOW”!
Dear one… Go to a place of worship and worship with others who KNOW God… but be careful that the WHERE doesn’t become a mountain that keeps you from the WHO and the HOW!
