Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139: 23-24 NLT
Years ago, a friend and I were coming back to the US through Canadian Customs. Our hair in those days was black and long with full beards. We were thin and wore cut off jeans with holee shirts. Something about us must have been a sight that set off the radar on the customs officers “Wanted List”! After exiting the vehicle, we and the car were searched right down to the ash tray.
In our humanity... it seems like an unnatural request to say, “Search me”! But David is not asking another person to search him….no… he is asking the One who made him to help him discover what we often need help with today. Things like...
Anxiety! “Why do I still worry about things that are out of my control? Put my mind at ease through trusting that You are greater than the problems I face today!”
Offenses! “Lord, now that I am walking with You… What odors do I give off that are offensive to You?”
Your on a path that leads to eternal life, beloved. So, pull over once in a while and pray, “Lord...Search me”?
